TO PAGE 2 of "Loïc Bard Capside Lamps"! ----->
Some lights just pull you in, and you can’t help but to peek inside them! Loïc Bard’s Capside Lamps do just that… their faceted woody shell and colorful rope cord are hard to ignore, but when you get glimpses of the bright colors within, you have to peek inside! And as an added bonus (for those who love the details) the inner frame looks like CNC milled wood holding on to the subtly beveled facets… And they can be suspended like pendant lamps, or placed as on one of their many sides for directional, ambient lighting. Take a peek at the stunning lamps on the next page!

The Emergency Station houses in a single building the Alboraya Emergency services (Police, Civil Protection and Ambulance service). The site is somewhat hidden, located between property walls of an industrial park – Polígono de la Mar – close to the city ring road. The proposal aims, therefore, to make the installation more visible while creating a small public space that provides it with identity, kindness, a “place”. On this basis, we configured a...

Les prochaines étapes de ce processus prévoient :
- l’élaboration d’options pour intégrer la qualité architecturale dans le cadre d’un partenariat public-privé tout en tenant compte de l’échéancier, du budget, et des critères fonctionnels du projet;
- une discussion de ces options avec des experts locaux...

[ DesignApplause] Nani, what’s the message this year?
[Nani Marquina] The message is new this year. The message is ‘Natural‘. The concept is to establish a connection with the origin of the materials and the craftsmanship, the old techniques. The fibers, the dyes, are integral to the natural message.
[DA] Any synthetics involved?
[NM] No no. We work with jute, silk AND metal nettle from Napal and Pakistan, and wool from Afganistan. This allows us the options...From Kollectif

Excerpt from press release: « FROM QUEBEC, A SHOWCASE OF QUEBEC CREATIVITY, AT WANTEDDESIGN, MAY 18-20″
NEW YORK, May 1, 2013 – This Spring, some of the most celebrated new designs from Quebec will migrate south for FROM QUEBEC, a featured exhibition at the international event WantedDesign to be held in New York City, May 18-20. Spearheaded by the Quebec Government Office in New York, FROM QUEBEC will present a jury-curated selection of more than 20 exclusive pieces by the province’s most creative minds in lighting, furniture and homewares.
Under the creative direction of industry veteran Josée Lepage, the 2013 exhibition follows on the success of its 2010 debut, when over 70 original Quebec designs were presented at Noho’s Relative Space. The FROM QUEBEC 2013 edition includes the latest award-winning designs by Olivier Desrochers and Loïc Bard; Tat Chao’s In Vitro collection of lighting and objects made from recycled glass tableware; the “babiche” or rawhide weaving of Samare’s Paddle bench as well as Lambert Rainville’s 3D-printed flower vase, which beautifully attest to the many ways Quebec designers draw on the oldest of craft tradition and the newest of design processes to create works with an original vocabulary and perspective.
Fusing European heritage with North American practicality, Quebec design is rooted in its cultural history yet contemporary in its outlook. “The innovative products in FROM QUEBEC remind us that our northern neighbor is a...

Comprising thousands of apartment units, a mall, a school and a sports complex, the Forum will be a platform for genuine urban celebration. More images and architects’ description after the break.

The project is located in the city center, and is built on the grounds of the former market, recently removed to the outskirts. The architects hope to create a place that provides an exciting urban experience, attracting the public not only to exhibitions but also to its diverse and bustling urban space.

The Techos House is a vacation house located on the shore of the Nahuelhuapi Lake, south of Argentina, near Villa la Angostura. The land is a 200 year old bamboo stick forest next to the lake.
One of the issues we faced was how to fulfill a local standard, in which the roof had to have a minimum slope of 26ª, allow for the sun to come in and have views of the forest and the lake from inside the house.
The program consists in two floors, family in the main level leaving visits and services to the ground level.
The roof issue is solved starting from a...

Two of the existing three branches of the Netherlands Institute of Ecology (NIOO-KNAW) are housed in this building. The complex comprises a main building with laboratories and offices, and various subsidiary buildings such as greenhouses. It accommodates a staff of some 160.
The new building is situated on the route that connects Wageningen with Ede, opposite the campus of Wageningen University, and thus in the heart of this green centre of knowledge. Representation is therefore an important core value of the assignment. That visibility is transposed into transparency in the design, whereby both a view of the activities and a working climate that makes contact with the outside world are facilitated.
Moreover, sustainable architecture is naturally a priority for the Netherlands Institute of Ecology. An innovative energy concept, based on the cradle-to-cradle concept, contributes to the principal’s ambition to implement the most sustainable office and laboratory complex in the N...
