    String
The first String System® was designed in 1949. It has since evolved from groundbreaking concept to one of the most loved pieces of classic Scandinavian design. Each component is so well thought-through that a near-infinite variety of combinations is possible. Thanks to the slim panels, it’s possible to create a shelf large enough for any number of books and objects, while still maintaining a light appearance.

ICFF—or the International Contemporary Furniture Fair—is one of the biggest furniture shows this side of Milan. And like its Italian rival, ICFF is closely watched by critics, who see it as a gauge of broader cultural trends. For example, the glitzy 2000s correlated with escapism from political turmoil and war. The post-2008 fair was full of inexpensive, DIY projects, supposedly reflecting life after the recession. Last year, as the recovery took hold, critics saw a resurgence of excess...

After Architecture, a collaborative design house founded by two Cornell University seniors in the Bachelor of Architecture program, designed the Twofold bench, seating to accommodate two user groups, along with two types of behavior.

The all-in-one table slash bench design can host the average person of average height and seat them comfortably 18″ off the ground, perfect for resting your feet or playing a game of chess. The other type of user would be children, with space for the child to slide in and have the table be chest high for game playing or just to feel like a big kid.

The bench is milled from plywood profiles, basically inverting the way plywood is traditionally used, causing the linear layers to be exposed. The edges were then painted with a bright, neon color making the curved geometry of the piece pop.

Twofold was designed for a site outside the Boston Children’s Museum at Fort Point Channel and is currently on display as part of the Design Museum Boston’s Street Seats: Reimagining the Public Bench Exhibition.

El Caserón is a modern residence situated in Zaragoza, Spain that was designed by G///bang in 2008. The project is about  remodeling and expansion of an existing single-family house, located in a lot of 1000 square meters, in a residential district of isolated, single-family homes. The existing building was comprised of two parts. On one hand, a main body in the front area of the lot, 10×12 meters, with load bearing walls and Arabic tile roof (preserved), and on the other hand, a small attached volume, 3×6 meters, with a flat room (demolished).

The new structure contains the access hall, garage, gym, covered pool, children’s bedroom and a small apartment for the couple. It is a single story home with an interior garden that has been placed between the sleeping quarters to provide warmth...
